The golden dome of Masjid Bandaraya is easy to photograph, but I would slow down before treating it as scenery. It began as Kuching's nineteenth-century Town Mosque and was once called the Pink Mosque because of its earlier colour. The present building is a later reconstruction and expansion: that change, tied to the city's Muslim community, is the story. Dress modestly, ask before entering or photographing interiors, and expect access to narrow during prayer, Friday service or events. Early morning or late afternoon suits visitors interested in living faith; anyone wanting a conventional museum may find little to complete. Entry is generally free, but arrangements change on Fridays and festivals, so check the same-day notice.
